A Waffle House customer allegedly shot a waitress in the head Friday after she asked him not to smoke in the restaurant.

A waitress working at a Mississippi Waffle House was killed early Friday by a customer who witnesses say shot her for telling him he was not allowed to smoke in the restaurant.

According to KSDK, a little after 1 a.m. Friday morning, former firefighter Johnny Max Mount entered the Biloxi Waffle House while smoking a cigarette, even though smoking was not allowed at the Waffle House, and is not allowed in most restaurants.

According to Jezebel, waitress Julie Brightwell, who had reportedly worked as a waitress at the Waffle House for eight years, informed him that smoking was not allowed at the Waffle House. Rather than putting out the cigarette, Mount argued with Brightwell, and then he allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot her in the head.

Brightwell was rushed to the hospital, but died of her wounds.

Mount reportedly stayed at the scene and was waiting outside when police arrived. He has since been charged with first-degree murder and is being held on a $2 million bond.
